Norwegian ferry operator Fjord Line has taken delivery of its revamped cruise ferry, Oslofjord, from STX Finland’s Rauma shipyard.

The delivery is part of a €30m contract awarded by the Norwegian operator to STX Finland in June 2013 for the conversion of the cruise ferry.

The project included replacing several cabins with public areas for tax-free shopping, cafeteria and restaurant offerings.

Sandefjord-Strömstad line director Marcus Pettersson said: “Now the MS Oslofjord looks like a brand new ship, and we are looking forward to introducing her to our guests, truck drivers and freight shippers.”

STX Finland project manager Kari Toivonen commented: “The basic design needed to be reviewed almost totally and the project was executed on a turn key basis. We are very satisfied about being able to hand over this totally renewed ferry to Fjord Line.”

Formerly called Bergensfjord, the 134m-long ship was built in Norway in 1993 at the Norwegian shipyard Fosen, and is expected to accommodate around 1,800 passengers and 370 cars.

Oslo architects Falkum-Hansen Designs has designed the new interior for Oslofjord and is also providing planning and design for Fjord Line’s two new cruise ferries.

The Oslofjord is now ready to enter service on a new line between Sandefjord, Norway and Strömstad, Sweden on 20 June.
