Norway-based Ulstein Verft has delivered the newly built advanced subsea vessel, Polar Onyx, to GC Rieber Shipping.

Polar Onyx construction support vessel is the 300th vessel delivered by Ulstein Verft and can operate in harsh environments and deep waters.

The vessel is designed to operate in the SURF market, is built for dynamic positioning using the latest international environmental standards, and can accommodate a crew of 130.

“Polar Onyx will have a central role in realising the targets we have outlined for our customers and ourselves.” 

GC Rieber Shipping CEO Irene Waage Basili said this is a vessel with high technological and operational capacity, and it supports GC Rieber Shipping’s ambition to have a fleet of advanced vessels for demanding waters.

“We are experiencing high market activity within the high-end subsea market, and Polar Onyx will contribute to strengthening GC Rieber Shipping’s position and focus within this market,” Basili said.

The vessel is chartered for a period of five years by Ceona Services, a London-based subsea company in the SURF segment. The charter period may be extended by five years.

Ceona will use the vessel for pipe-laying operations for Petrobas in waters of up to 2,200m deep on the coast of Brazil.

Ceona CEO Steven Preston said the company has ambitions of delivering the most safe and efficient subsea installations in the market.

“A top, modern, advanced vessel as Polar Onyx will have a central role in realising the targets we have outlined for our customers and ourselves,” Preston said.
