Specialists from GL, the Canadian Ministry of Transportation and representatives of the shipyard, insurance, charterer and REEDEREI NSB carried out the inspections on 2 January.

The team performed ultrasonic tests on a visible crack that measured 1.5m on the main deck and extended for 30cm into the outer hull and concluded that it might have formed because of a defective welding seam.

Ultrasonic tests are being carried out on all other parts of the ship, followed by welding repair works onsite.

The vessel is stranded in St. Mary’s Bay at a sheltered location in the south of Newfoundland that has temperatures below zero degree centigrade. Repair work will be performed by a Canadian company and will take about seven days. A representative from GL will supervise works onsite.
