Wärtsilä has won a contract to supply engines and propulsion equipment for six new ro-ro container vessels, which are being built at MIPO shipyard in South Korea for the National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (NSCSA).

The vessels will be equipped with RT-flex58T engines, controllable pitch (CP) propellers, and the Wärtsilä Energopac system, and will have a common rail fuel injection as well as valve actuation engines featuring integrated electronic control.

Designed specifically for individual vessels, the Energopac system can be optimised to offer maximum fuel savings without compromising manoeuvrability or comfort levels, the company said.

According to Wärtsilä, fuel consumption will be further reduced by integrating the propeller and rudder design into a single unit with the installation of its Energopac system.

The equipment for the first vessel is scheduled to be delivered in May 2012, and the vessels are scheduled for delivery from the shipyard in 2013 and 2014, after which they will be operated by Mideast Ship Management, a subsidiary of NSCSA.
