Greek containership owner Costamare has purchased two secondhand vessels for $90m and extended the charters on six other ships in its 49-vessel fleet.
The company said it will pay $60m for the 6,700teu MSC Viviana, originally built in 2003 and to be renamed MSC Messinia, following which it will be chartered back to MSC for ten years at $29,000 per day.

Costamare will also pay $30m to buy the 4,100teu MSC Ulsan, built 2002, which will be chartered for 63 months at $16,500 per day following its delivery in the first quarter of 2012.
The company has also secured financing for three of five 8,800teu container units ships on order.
Costamare accepted a firm offer from a consortium of European and Asian banks in order to finance the remaining two newbuilds.
