Saudi Arabian shipping company Bahri has taken delivery of a new very large crude-oil carrier (VLCC) from South Korean company Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI).
The 300,000dwt carrier has increased Bahri’s total fleet of multipurpose vessels to 90 units and will be employed to transport crude oil.

The vessel, known as Lawhah, is the second of five VLCCs scheduled for delivery from HSHI to Bahri this year.
It also forms part of a series of ten VLCCs being built by HSHI as part of an agreement that was originally signed in May 2015 in line with Bahri’s plan to expand its maritime business.
Bahri has received seven of the ordered vessels to date and expects to take delivery of the remaining three carriers during the first half of this year.
Bahri CEO Abdullah Aldubaikhi said: “The addition of Lawhah to Bahri’s already strong fleet is an extension of the outstanding performance we delivered in 2017.

Bahri currently possesses a total of 43 VLCCs in its fleet.
The company received its first VLCC for this year, Kassab, last month.
