Robert Allanis has teamed up with Kongsberg Maritime to develop an unmanned and remotely operated fireboat known as RALamander.

The fireboat will offer in-close firefighting and ‘eye in the fire’ capabilities, which will allow firefighting professionals to carry out missions more safely and effectively.

It is expected to be equipped with Kongsberg’s maritime control and communications system, as well as an autonomous control solution.

The first vessel to be developed under the partnership, the 20m-long RALamander 2000, will feature Fi Fi 1 capability and have a pumping capacity of 2,400m³/hr with optional foam.

In addition, the Grapnel Emergency Towing (GET) system aboard the vessel will enable it to tow any burning vessel to a safe location.

Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) has entered an agreement with Germany-based Bernhard Schulte Ship to deliver a new ballast-free liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering vessel.

The 7,600m³ vessel is currently under construction at HMD’s shipyard in South Korea.

Its hull is based on a ballast-free concept, which features deadrise, an engine room, deckhouse and twin propulsion system.

The new ship design is expected to negate the requirement for an onboard ballast water treatment system, as well as the need for compliance under the Performance Standard for Protective Coatings for ballast tanks and related regulations.

The vessel will have the ability to transfer fuel for LNG-powered vessels at a rate of 1,250m³/hour via cryogenic flexible hoses.
