Port of Heysham in the UK has installed a terminal operating system (TOS) from Hogia at its existing RoRo terminal to improve operational efficiency.

The TOS has digitalised the management of freight transport through the terminal, which primarily serves the north-west of England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the Isle of Man.

The terminal has been visited by three ferry companies to transport 265,000t of cargo annually.

Following the installation of the new TOS, the Port of Heysham, operated by Peel Ports Group, became the first UK port to feature Hogia’s TOS.

Hogia Transport Systems senior business advisor Gary Umpleby said: “With the TOS capability for the pre-advising of units in advance of arrival at the port, and the possibility to integrate TOS with UK and EU customs and excise and border control systems, as well as systems used at the origin / destination ports and by hauliers, the deployment of TOS can significantly reduce the risks of diminished port capacity and HGV queuing that many fear may occur following Brexit.”

Hogia’s TOS is equipped with an open interface and is easily integrated with third-party applications, including the shipping companies’ own booking systems.
