Damen Shiprepair Harlingen (DSHL) has completed maintenance and repair work on Fugro Mercator, a twin-hulled survey vessel.

Constructed by Damen in 2003, the 42.23m-long vessel is used by Fugro to carry out bathymetric, geophysical, cable and pipeline route surveys.

The work on the vessel included an equipment overhaul covering the main and auxiliary engines, thrusters and winches, and an upgrade of areas such as a refit of the kitchen and dining areas.

It was also decided to upgrade the hull to extend the vessel’s life considering the vessel’s survey role of the nearshore geophysical industry.

DSHL project manager Arjan Sebel said: “Due to the extensive scope of the project, triggered by the modifications to the hull, a new delivery date of the vessel to the owner was agreed to both Damen and Furgo’s satisfaction.

“Their ability to incorporate the hull upgrade in a timely manner resulted in a successful project.”

“But due to the excellent cooperation with Furgo and the commitment of the personnel, the works were completed within the newly agreed time frame.”

Furgo vessel superintendent Chris de Bruin said: “DSHL has proven to be a flexible and trustworthy partner. Their ability to incorporate the hull upgrade in a timely manner resulted in a successful project.”

Sebel added: “In terms of safety and working procedures, in particular, we know each other’s standards. This makes for a smother docking period, allowing all involved to focus 100% on the job at hand.”
