Cargotec unit Kalmar has extended its collaboration with global terminal operator DP World to support operations at the $1bn deep-water port at Posorja in Ecuador.
DP World will purchase a new fleet of Kalmar mobile equipment, including 33 terminal tractors, three empty container handlers, three reach stackers and one forklift for the Posorja terminal, which is currently in its first phase of development.

DP World started construction of the deepwater port in September 2017. The company’s subsidiary DP World Posorja is developing the project.
In November, IDB Invest agreed to offer a financing package of $377m for the construction, operation and maintenance of the terminal’s first phase.
Upon completion of this phase, the terminal will feature a 480m berth and have a capacity of 750,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) annually.
Delivery of the equipment is scheduled to start during the second quarter of this year.

“DP World has enjoyed an excellent working relationship with Kalmar over the years, so it was natural that we turned to them to help us put our plans into action at the Posorja terminal.”
The Kalmar Insight performance management and optimisation tool, which will be connected with the new mobile equipment, will offer a real-time view of the terminal’s productivity and performance to personnel at DP World Posorja.
The tool is capable of aggregating operational business data from the equipment fleet, terminal operating system and maintenance management systems.
Kalmar solution sales manager Marcelo Massa said: “I am confident that with this new fleet, which has the latest technology, together with Kalmar Insight, DP World Posorja in Ecuador will be able to maximise the efficiency of their terminal and achieve a high level of productivity.”
