APM Terminals has launched the ‘Gothenburg Gateway’ programme to ensure loading of a container placed on a freight train anywhere in Sweden onto an ocean-going vessel within 48 hours.
With the Gothenburg Gateway, a new concept in Swedish logistics, APM Terminals aims to ensure that all parts of the country will have the same fast access to the market across the globe.

The concept combines fast-freight trains from all over Sweden to Gothenburg, an efficient container port that loads between trains and ships and more ocean-going vessels calling Gothenburg.
APM Terminals Gothenburg CEO Henrik Kristensen said: “Via The Gothenburg Gateway, it should take a maximum of 24 hours to reach Gothenburg by freight train, and a maximum of 48 hours in total to place a container on an ocean-going vessel.”
“The Gothenburg Gateway will help reduce this time by at least one week, as well as offering an efficient and climate-smart solution.”
To offer the most competitive delivery solution, APM Terminals will service Sweden with three ocean-going vessels per week.

Gothenburg mayor Axel Josefson emphasised the importance of planned dredging and tail network investments happening as soon as possible.
The first Green Cargo train is set to depart next week from an inland terminal operated by APM Terminals in Gävle.
APM Terminals noted that its market share of container imports and exports in Sweden is 41% and it carried out 4,350 container lifts on a single call.
In February, APM Terminals Barcelona increased reefer capacity by 31% and improved the terminal’s electrical capacity, which led to a 600t/year reduction in CO2 emissions.
