Cargotec subsidiary Kalmar has partnered with Bosch Rexroth to develop a fully electric version of its reach stacker and heavy forklift solutions.

The deal is part of Kalmar strategy to introduce electrically powered alternatives for its complete range of equipment portfolio.

As part of the collaboration, Bosch Rexroth will provide Kalmar with an eco-friendly electric version of the Kalmar reach stacker and Kalmar heavy forklift that will be launched in 2021.

Kalmar’s electric equipment portfolio includes light and medium forklift trucks, shuttle and straddle carriers, Kalmar Ottawa terminal tractors, yard cranes and automated guided vehicles (AGVs).

Kalmar Counterbalanced Container Handling vice-president Seppo Heino said: “We firmly believe that electricity is the power source of the future and have committed to making our full portfolio available as electrically powered by 2021.

“With this collaboration, we will be able to provide our customers with one of the most efficient solutions on the market for electric heavy vehicles with the help of Bosch Rexroth’s world-leading knowledge in hydraulic, electric and gearbox technology.

Recently, Kalmar won a contract to supply 38 Ottawa T2 terminal tractors for DP World-owned Caucedo marine terminal in the Dominican Republic.

Last month, Kalmar received a contract to deliver ten terminal tractors to Sintermar Darsena Toscana (SDT).
