The evacuation flight for Britons on board the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan has been delayed by a day and will take off on 22 February.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the UK had previously said that the flight will take off from Japan on 21 February.

On 20 February, the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare announced an additional 13 cases of the coronavirus (Covid-19) on the ship, bringing the total to 634.

The ship carried 78 UK nationals when it was quarantined in Japan earlier this month. Four of the UK passengers were confirmed to have contracted the virus.

The British embassy said that the flight is ‘logistically complicated’.

Two evacuated Australians test positive for Covid-19

Two of the 180 Australian citizens who were evacuated from the cruise ship tested positive for the coronavirus after arriving at Darwin, Australia.

On 20 February, the Australian Government evacuated its citizens who were stuck on the ship.

There are 46 Australians that tested positive for the coronavirus who will undergo treatment in Japan.

The epidemic has so far killed 2,247 and infected more than 76,000 people around the world. The UK has reported nine cases with no deaths.

Two Japanese passengers who were on the cruise ship have died due to the coronavirus.
