Windstar Cruises, an operator in the field of high-end small ship cruises, has received the delivery of transformed Star Breeze ship at the Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo, Italy.

Star Breeze represents the start of the extension and modernisation programme under the Star Plus Initiative of Windstar Cruises.

Star Breeze will enter service on 27 March 2021.

The project, worth $250m, involves three cruise ships, namely Star Breeze, Star Legend, and Star Pride.

As part of the programme, the three cruise ships will be installed with a new 25.6m mid-body section, along with renewed propulsion engines and diesel generators for more environmentally responsible navigation.

The cruise ships will also feature open decks, public areas, and passenger cabins as part of extensive modernisation.

Before the transformation, Star Breeze had a length of 134m, a tonnage of approximately 10,000t, and a capacity to accommodate 212 passengers onboard.

After transformation, the ship has a length of approximately 160m, a capacity to accommodate 312 passengers, and a tonnage of approximately 13,000t.

The renovation project is being carried out by the Italian shipbuilding company Fincantieri through its ‘Ship Repair & Conversion’ part of the Services Division.
