Japan-based Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group unit Mitsubishi Shipbuilding has secured its initial order to deliver LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) fuel supply systems (FGSS) for high-pressure dual-fuel marine engines.
These systems will be deployed onboard six LNG-fuelled car carriers.

The newbuilds will be constructed by a group company of Imabari Shipbuilding.
FGSS’ components include LNG fuel gas supply units, LNG fuel tanks, and a control unit.
The equipment module has been designed to save space and requires minimum maintenance, enabling the shipyard to reduce the period of deployment.
Besides, the control system and other aspects of the FGSS can be modified as per operational needs of the client.

By GlobalDataMitsubishi Shipbuilding’s FGSS has been engineered for marine engines following delivery records of solutions for onshore engine test centres.
The company used its LNG and vaporised gas handling technologies for the development of the solution.
In a statement, Mitsubishi Shipbuilding said: “The company has already received orders for and delivered FGSS for marine low-pressure engines, and this latest order for FGSS for marine high-pressure engines means that the company has acquired orders for both low-pressure and high-pressure types.”
The recent order for FGSS will allow the firm to meet part of MHI Group’s strategic initiatives that aim to back energy transition.
Last week, Mitsubishi Shipbuilding teamed up with e5 Lab to work on the design of a standard hybrid-electric propulsion ship, called ROBOSHIP.
