United Arab Emirates (UAE) based Abu Dhabi Ports has launched a new digital platform known as Maqta Gateway, which is expected to help the company digitalise its trade and improve overall efficiency.

Maqta Gateway is designed to provide digital services to various business units such as shipping agents, traders, freight forwarders, custom brokers and others.

The fully digitalised system supports the government’s ‘Abu Dhabi 2030’ vision and is capable of providing all the information required by port customers.

The system can also provide customers with information relating to transactions at any given time and from anywhere in the world, reported Gulf News.

It will allow the relevant authorities to identify the nature of goods coming into the country before arrival.

The system was developed by Abu Dhabi Ports' subsidiary Maqta Gateway and currently offers more than 100 services that aim to provide easier registration and payment processes, as well as container, general cargo and cruise ship services.

"Abu Dhabi Ports is committed to achieving a knowledge-based, sustainable and diversified economy, encouraging entrepreneurs and business owners to work in an environment based on innovation and enterprise."

UAE State Minister and Abu Dhabi Ports chairman Dr Sultan Jaber was quoted by Emirates News Agency as saying: “Our leadership has supported Maqta Gateway from its inception in December 2014 and throughout its development phases, until completion and delivery.

“In line with our leaders’ wise vision, Abu Dhabi Ports is committed to achieving a knowledge-based, sustainable and diversified economy, encouraging entrepreneurs and business owners to work in an environment based on innovation and enterprise.”

Maqta Gateway underwent an initial trial period last year and logged a total of 37,000 vessel entries and 3.6 million digital transactions during the testing phase.

The solution is expected to be integrated with air cargo and land services by 2019 and with other port community systems by 2020.
