MAN Energy Solutions has secured a contract from Turkey-based Sanmar Shipyards to deliver a pair of MAN 12V175D engines for a next-generation Svitzer 60 TBP TRAnsverse tug.
Under the contract, the company will supply two 2,040kW-rated propulsion engines along with a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) exhaust gas after-treatment system to bring the tug in line with International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III emission standards.

MAN Energy will deliver the engines and SCR systems to Sanmar from its Denmark-based production facility.
With the vessels slated to be completed in the third quarter of next year, the company will start delivery of the engines this December.
Sanmar Shipyards engineering director Hakan Tunç said: “The excellent collaboration between Sanmar, Svitzer and MAN Energy Solutions’ technical and commercial departments has resulted in optimisation at every stage of the development of this innovative TRAnsverse 2600 tugboat design, including its power, crew safety and environmental impact.”
MAN Energy provides the MAN 175D engine range in three variants, specifically with 12, 16 and 20 cylinders.

By GlobalDataWith an output that ranges from 1,500kW to 4,400kW, the engine is suitable for ferries, offshore support ships, tugs and other working vessels.
Its additional engine variants can also be used for super-yachts and other naval marine applications.

Recently, MAN Energy won a contract from Luxembourg-based shipping group CLdN to supply four dual-fuel MAN B&W 6S60ME-GI engines for two hybrid 8,000 lane-metre vessels.
