South Korea-based Busan Port Authority (BPA) has announced the creation of a comprehensive plan for carbon neutrality at the port by 2050.

The plan will include detailed actions to reach zero carbon emissions by 2050, in addition to a mid- to long-term carbon neutrality roadmap.

The service outsourcing of the plan will consist of exploring the current status and evaluating carbon neutrality trends.

It will also cover climate change adaptation in the country along with the greenhouse gas (GHG) emission status and prospects of Busan Port.

BPA stated that ‘the comprehensive plan will reflect the 2050 Carbon Neutrality Roadmap in the Maritime and Fisheries Sector announced by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’.

BPA is currently working on the reduction of 50% of GHG in the public sector by 2030. It also plans to open solar power generation facilities in Woongdong Distripark, install heating, ventilation and air conditioning HVAC systems using seawater, and establish a resource circulation network.

BPA CEO Kang Joon-suk said: “BPA plans to work continuously to go beyond the low carbon goal and achieve carbon neutrality for Busan Port in response to the climate change crisis that has emerged as an environmental, social and ethical issue of the world.”
