Marine terminal service provider Terminal Link Texas (TLT) has started the construction of a 25-acre container yard inside the Bayport terminal at Port Houston in Texas, US.
The new yard is expected to increase TLT’s overall stacking capacity by around 80% and is scheduled to open by July 2018.

The yard will be developed as part of a wider development plan for the Bayport terminal and will facilitate an increase in container freight station activities at the facility, as well as improve maintenance and repair operations.
Construction is to be carried out under a lease agreement signed between Port Houston and TLT.
TLT will build and make use of the new container yard under the arrangement, and also return 14 existing Bayport terminal facilities that the company currently operates to Port Houston.
Bayport terminal is currently in its phased development process and will feature a total of seven berths upon completion.

The growth is expected to continue as the petrochemical facilities along the Houston Ship Channel are projected to expand and produce more plastic resins for exportation.
In addition to Bayport terminal, Port Houston also operates the Barbours Cut Container Terminal.
The port handles nearly two-thirds of all containers moving through the Gulf of Mexico.
The Port of Houston Authority's Port Commission granted approval for a $1.5m increase in funding for the US Army Corps of Engineers’ maintenance dredging operations in August last year, which are being carried out on a portion of the Bayport Ship Channel.
