Wärtsilä Voyage’s port and traffic management solutions include intelligent tools and digital technologies that boost the operational efficiency of ports through vessel traffic management.

The company will implement its latest technologies, including advanced intelligent manoeuvring, Navi-Port, 3D, PilotPro units, VTS simulator modules and Navi-Harbour’s web version, for the project.

Local firm Fortris is implementing the project, which will replace the existing manual and paper-based systems, in collaboration with Wärtsilä Voyage.

The port’s digitalisation is expected to help ZPC efficiently manage operations and compete with Eastern African ports amid significant growth in the global supply chain.

Constructed in 1920, the Malindi port includes one berth that can receive a 130m ship.

Upon deployment of the new solutions, the revenue of the port is projected to increase two-fold.

Wärtsilä Voyage Middle East, Africa and India (MEAI) region sales head Mather Al-Ali said: “Zanzibar’s strategic geographical position gives it a comparative advantage in harnessing the benefits of the sea-based economy.

“Zanzibar has a strong history in maritime trade, with an increased focus in the past two decades where it has had a major contribution to the economy.”

Recently, Wärtsilä won a contract for the supply of its hybrid propulsion solution for Stena RoRo’s three new Ro-Pax vessels.
