Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) has concluded its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation for Greenway, which is claimed to be the world’s first dual-fuel LNG Suezmax tanker.

After the vessel’s delivery from China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International, the supply of 1,500mt of LNG was carried out at the Port of Pengerang in Malaysia.

The support of several industry partners facilitated the delivery and LNG bunkering, noted EPS.

These partners included marine fuel supplier Peninsula, who collaborated with Petronas Marine to carry out the LNG bunker supply.

Greenway has initially been chartered by India-based Reliance Industries. The vessel’s maiden voyage will involve carrying a cargo of ultra-low sulphur diesel, which will be loaded at the company’s terminal in Jamnagar.

The vessel will later continue to trade in the spot market.

EPS stated: “The company continues to use alternative marine fuels to lower its emissions with dual-fuel vessels across EPS’ three core segments of containerships, dry bulk carriers and tankers.”

Greenway is the first of two dual-fuel LNG Suezmaxes for the company, with the sister vessel, Starway, expected to be delivered in August.

Last month, EPS signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for an ocean-going ammonia dual-fuel gas tanker.

The vessel will be constructed at HHI in South Korea, registered under the Singapore flag and classed by ABS.
