Shipping service provider DFDS has placed a new order for two 6,700 lane meter load capacity ships.
The company originally signed a deal with Chinese shipyard Jinling for the construction of two roll-on / roll-off (RoRo) ships in 2016. This newest agreement will take the total order to four large RoRo vessels.

The original two RoRo ships are set to be delivered in early 2019, while the newly ordered vessels will be delivered in early 2020. All four vessels are intended to service freight customers across the North Sea region.
DFDS CEO Niels Smedegaard said: “The ships form part of our new building programme that underpins our ability to deliver the transport capacity required by our customers and our continuous pursuit of efficiency improvements.”
The newly ordered ships will be built in compliance with the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) new Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) regulations, which set lower limits for energy consumption and emissions in accordance with a ship's capacity and engine power.
DFDS’ new ships will include a scrubber and ballast water treatment system, as well as various energy-enhancing initiatives to aid environmentally friendly operation.

By GlobalDataThe ships will also be equipped with an advanced ramp system with three independent stern ramps and internal ramps on each side in the ships.The ramp system will enable the ships to load and unload cargo in a very short time.
DFDS also has ordered an additional two RoRo ships as part of a separate development, which are currently under construction in Flensburg, Germany.
