Combined, the two terminals manage around two million containers annually.

According to the vendor, the Kalmar Eco reachstacker lowers fuel usage and emissions without hampering productivity by using a smaller engine than conventional solutions.

Furthermore, it is said to enable smoother acceleration and reduce cabin noise.

The equipment will include a fuel-saving guarantee that is projected to boost financial predictability through a fixed level of fuel usage depending on the cargo handling drive cycle.

Kalmar Italy Solution Sales deputy manager Matteo Prefumo said: “Eco reachstackers are helping to reduce CO₂ emissions all over the world, proving that it is possible to improve productivity without increasing fuel consumption.”

The contract was booked in the Q1 2023 order intake of Cargotec, Kalmar’s parent company. The equipment is expected to be delivered in the second quarter of the year.

The order also includes Kalmar Insight, a performance management tool that helps transform data into actionable insights, as well as add-on safety functions, such as a fire suppression system.

PSA Italy CEO Roberto Ferrari said: “We are constantly optimising our equipment fleet to improve fuel efficiency and reduce carbon emissions as part of our Group’s ambitious sustainability targets, and to keep the greenhouse gas reduction commitments that we have made to the City of Genoa and its institutions.

“The new reachstackers are another step in the right direction.”
