Panama Canal is planning to deploy Quintiq's vessel scheduling and maritime resource management system to handle the growing traffic passing through its waterway.
The new system will manage the canal's vessel scheduling operations and is expected to optimise costs, as well as safety and overall efficiency, and will be fully integrated into canal's operations over the next two years.

It is expected to be operational by September.
The Quintiq system will enable the Panama Canal to implement a fully integrated operating plan for all of its resources such as tugboats, pilots and line handlers.
It will also improve situational awareness and provide more accurate data to help mitigate operational risk.

The canal is currently witnessing a surge in cargo and the number of transits by larger Neopanamax vessels following the expansion works carried out last year, which has led the authorities to allocate more resources to ensure the highest possible performance and safety standards to its customers.
Panama Canal aims to more efficiently manage this greater demand and capacity via implementation of the Quintiq system.
