Abu Dhabi Ports’ subsidiary Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy (ADMA) and Columbia Shipmanagement (CSM) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop training programmes together.

The MoU also covers the provision of consultancy services in maritime operations focused on the applications of efficiency enhancement, alternative fuels and artificial intelligence (AI).

Ship management services provider CSM will also work together with the Abu Dhabi Ports’ maritime education facility to devise, market and conduct courses, as well as programmes for trainers and students.

Additionally, CSM will assist ADMA in developing a new curriculum and provide resources for the creation of eLearning and interactive courses.

The company will also introduce new technologies, including AI and holographic telepresence, and provide consultancy services together with ADMA.

CSM CEO Mark O’Neil said: “We look forward to working with ADMA in developing AI and digital solutions in the important area of seafarers training.

Under the MoU, the companies are also expected to undertake joint research projects dedicated to the development of innovative future maritime technologies.

In February, Abu Dhabi Ports signed an MoU with Swedish company Saab at the international defence exhibition IDEX 2021 to develop port surveillance and vessel traffic management technologies.
