Singapore-based Summit Power International’s (SPI) subsidiary Summit LNG Terminal has contracted PSA Marine Bangladesh to provide vessel support services for liquefied natural gas (LNG) ships calling at its Summit LNG floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) terminal in Bangladesh.

The arrangement will see PSA Marine Bangladesh provide berthing, mooring, pilot and personnel transfer services for a 15-year period.

The company will employ three of its escort tugboats, one fast crew boat and one offshore supply vessel to offer the services.

PSA Marine managing director Peter Chew said: “We have an excellent track record of providing towage services to LNG terminals, be it at the Singapore LNG terminal in Jurong Island or the Oman LNG terminal at Sur.”

PSA Marine Bangladesh, along with Summit LNG, plans to begin operations at its Bangladesh-based LNG FSRU terminal early next year.

Summit LNG previously secured a concession from Bangladesh’s state-owned company Petrobangla last year for the development of a floating LNG terminal, which is set to feature a storage and regasification unit connected to the shore via a 6km subsea pipeline.

The project will be operated on a build, own, operate and transfer basis to supply roughly 500 million cubic feet per day of natural gas to the country’s national grid.
