Danish manufacturer Viking Life-Saving Equipment has agreed to acquire Norwegian lifeboat builder Norsafe.

Norsafe manufactures a complete line of free-fall lifeboats and fast rescue boats with davits in accordance with the latest SOLAS requirements. The company was established in 1903.

To date, the company has supplied more than 28,000 lifeboats to the global ship market.

Norsafe has manufacturing facilities in Norway, China and Greece, while its sales and service offices are located in countries that include China, Greece, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, the UAE, US, and UK.

Commenting on the deal, Viking CEO Henrik Uhd Christensen said: “This is a very close operational and cultural fit. Like Viking, Norsafe has been family owned for generations, which creates strong and lasting relationships with customers, and it places the same emphasis on quality, on the use of advanced materials and on technological innovation as we do.

“Viking’s training arm will also receive a boost to its ability to help vessel and offshore asset owners manage crew competencies.”

“Adding Norsafe’s current network to Viking’s extends our already impressive global reach. And on the training side, with Norsafe’s specialised centres in Norway and Greece offering product and STCW courses, Viking’s training arm will also receive a boost to its ability to help vessel and offshore asset owners manage crew competencies.”

Viking expects this acquisition to help it meet new demands for full-scope solutions as Norsafe’s 24/7 service network offers lifeboat maintenance from more than 300 ports globally.

As part of the deal, Norsafe CEO Dag Songedal will join the Viking group.

Songedal said: “Under the Viking umbrella, we are creating a more robust and more capable business model that will ensure we can continue to advance our ability to protect people at sea with compelling lifeboat solutions.”

The transaction is scheduled to complete by 1 October, with details not yet disclosed.
