DP World has commenced the deployment of a Port Community System (PCS) at the Port of Mombasa in Kenya, in collaboration with EMEA Port Logistics, the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), and the Kenyan government.
The PCS initiative aims to digitise port operations and provide stakeholders with better transparency and access to trade data.
DP World does not operate the Port of Mombasa, but the system will be available to all port users, including public and private sector organisations.
The Port of Mombasa facilitates international trade for more than 12 landlocked countries in East and Central Africa.
EMEA Port Logistics director Jack Rono said: “This partnership with DP World marks an important step in advancing Kenya’s logistics capabilities.
“Together, we’re creating a connected and transparent ecosystem that benefits all players in the trade chain.”
The PCS platform enables importers, exporters, freight forwarders, transport firms, and customs agents to use digital tools for cargo tracking, gate scheduling, billing, payments, and real-time status monitoring.
The Kenya Ports Authority will use the PCS to manage gate operations and control cargo movement, with an anticipated reduction in cargo dwell times.
DP World expects the fully operational system to reduce cargo clearance times by up to 30% for over 3,000 users each year.
The deployment forms part of wider efforts between DP World and the Kenyan government, including integration with the eCitizen platform that supports the digitalisation of customs and related government services.
DP World digital trade solutions chief operating officer Mahmood Albastaki said: “Digitisation is no longer optional; it’s essential for unlocking the full potential of African trade.
“By introducing this platform in Kenya, we are connecting Africa’s ports to the digital economy and setting a new regional benchmark for digital integration and transparency.”
Last month, the Montreal Port Authority and DP World signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to move forward with the design of land-based infrastructure for the future container terminal as part of the Port of Montreal’s Contrecœur expansion project.
