Luda Technology Group has entered a strategic partnership with prominent Chinese shipbuilders to foster research and manufacturing of speciality-material flanges and pipe fittings for ammonia-fuelled vessels.

This initiative represents an advancement in the Chinese shipbuilding sector's pursuit of supply chain independence and transformation of essential components.

The companies involved in the partnership include China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), Haiting (Nantong) Shipbuilding Company, and COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Company.

Under the cooperation agreements, Luda Taian Industrial Company, a subsidiary of Luda Technology Group, will supply certified products for various high-value-added ships – including LNG carriers, ultra-large container ships, chemical tankers, and luxury cruise ships.

Luda Taian R&D director Sun Yanru said: “Green-powered vessels pose revolutionary requirements for critical components.

“We must plan ahead, work with leading partners on joint R&D, and co-define the technical standards for next-generation products in order to take the initiative in global competition.”

The partnership will also establish joint technical R&D teams aimed at fostering innovation in various fields – including the application of new materials, advancing processing techniques, and managing digital supply chains.

Luda Taian is testing ammonia-resistant materials, such as high-nickel alloys and special stainless steels, to address the challenges posed by ammonia fuel, including high corrosiveness and hydrogen embrittlement risks.

The company is also concurrently developing suitable welding and heat treatment processes.

Luda Taian's advanced physical and chemical laboratories and testing centres ensure that new material samples undergo comprehensive performance testing and life-cycle assessment to guarantee that all products adhere to the most rigorous international standards.

Luda Technology CEO Ma Biu said: “This in-depth collaboration with China's 'national team' and leading enterprises in shipbuilding marks a critical step in Luda Technology's transformation from a component manufacturer to a 'technology solution provider’.

“We will continue to increase investment in R&D to ensure that every product delivered meets the most stringent international standards, and together with our industry partners, jointly define the technical standards for next-generation green vessels, thereby elevating the position of Chinese manufacturing in the global high-end marine equipment sector.”
