The test device TWIN CHECK 4.0 has been developed and designed by Martechnic® in the framework of the digitalisation concept to provide customers with a cost-effective technical solution for regular on-site measurements of two critical oil parameters: water-in-oil and alkalinity reserve (BN, formerly TBN).

The new test device offers optimisation of measuring processes, easy-to-use navigation menu, automatic data recording and storing as well as USB to serial connection (terminal program) for data transfer and trend analysis of the condition of lubricating and hydraulic oil.

The TWIN CHECK 4.0 with its modular design enables easy and quick replacement of every single constituent part of the test device (no matter plugged or screwed) independently and directly on-site in case of malfunction or damage occurred.

This technical feature, previously not available on the market, provides an option to conduct a short on-site technical diagnosis (using, for example, the MT TEST KIT VERIFYER of Martechnic® for detection of pressure related problems) and to order the required spare part for unassisted replacement. This advantage helps to save costs for diagnostics and repair within the company premises.

The key benefits of the TWIN CHECK 4.0 include:

  • Applicable for all mineral oil based fluids
  • Improved design with easy-to-follow navigation menu for high accuracy measurements
  • Internal memory chip with average data storage capacity of 2.5 years
  • Digital read-out of test results
  • USB to serial cable connectivity for data transfer and trend analysis
  • BN determination: six modes for up to six various oil grades of different engines
  • Maintenance and repair on board is possible
  • Available as single test unit: Water-in-Oil or BN on request

The content of water-in-oil and BN are measured in a similar way:  two chambers of the TWIN CHECK 4.0’s reaction vessel are filled with the oil sample and the reagent. The integrated pressure sensor adopts the external (ambient) pressure as a measurement line with a zero-referenced value. After that the test device has to be shaken every two minutes for 15 seconds as the chemical reaction occurs.

The measurement will stop automatically as soon as the determined concentration of water in oil / BN parameter is constant, and the end result will be immediately shown on the digital display. Therefore, the measuring time directly depends on the measured value and can vary from two to a maximum of 20 minutes.

For BN determination a single standard calibration procedure for the oil grade in use is required.
