Norway-based marine electronics provider Navico has selected CalAmp to deliver improved LMU-4530 telematics devices for its new Cloud-enabled GoFree Connected Vessel programme.

The LMU-4530 device will aid Navico in monitoring onboard engine, sensor and navigation data online, and is capable of switching between cellular, satellite and Wi-Fi modes.

CalAmp has also customised its device management and maintenance software platform, PULS, to support Navico's over-the-air device management and firmware updates for vessels in port or at sea. 

Navico senior telematics product manager Phil Gaynor said: “CalAmp's LMU-4530, and extensive development resources, are helping to power Navico's GoFree Connected Vessel programme to deliver vessel tracking, marine engine diagnostics, and a comprehensive trip management programme.

“Navico's GoFree programme also includes a dynamic sonar information product that enables crews to contribute to, and share, Cloud-based marine cartographic data to locate prime fishing locations.”

The LMU-4530 unit is equipped with a proprietary programmable event generator (PEG), which acts as an onboard alert engine, continuously monitoring a vehicle or vessel's operating environment and status.

PEG can also respond instantly to various pre-defined threshold conditions, including time, date, motion, locations and geo-zones, as well as data bus parameters and directly instrumented inputs.

CalAmp telematics systems business senior vice-president and general manager Justin Schmid said: “With cellular, satellite, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options, the rugged, weather-resistant LMU-4530 is ideal for an array of marine applications.

“Equipped with actionable data, vessel operators can make more informed decisions about routes, navigation and shipboard maintenance.”

CalAmp’s Telematics Cloud services were previously adopted by fleet asset management software provider Chevin Fleet Solutions in September last year.
