Global marine survey group BMT Partners, along with shipping company Maersk, has developed an online marine application survey, trend evaluation and reporting (MATE) platform.

The new MATE platform provides real-time data on vessels' conditions, and changes in that condition over time, thereby allowing operators to respond to risk areas quickly.

It also offers an interactive, moderator setting to develop and manage inspections, data analysis, as well as providing customised reporting.

"The scope of the inspection programme is completely unique."

BMT said that it has already inspected over 100 vessels in a year under Maersk’s extensive inspection programme.

The inspection provides a vessel scoring system on several areas such as cargo care, pollution prevention, certification, navigational incidents and structural condition.

BMT Surveys risk and quality, and marine surveyor manager Olivier van de Kruijs said: “The scope of the inspection programme is completely unique.

“It has been set up in such a way that it doesn’t matter if the inspection is carried out in Rotterdam, Shanghai or South Africa, the results will be both objective and consistent.

“This provides Maersk with valuable intelligence on the vessels that they operate in which they can benchmark against average data.”

In June, Verweij & Hoebee Groep, a part of BMT Group, launched a new concept, expanding its services with management audits of ship owners.

The new prevention concept includes surveys on-board of ships as well as audits of both management and general operations.
