Norway’s Kongsberg Maritime has secured an engineering, procurement, construction & installation (EPCI) contract, worth Nkr120m ($14m), for a newbuild RoPax ferry from Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG), a subsidiary of Siem Group.
Under the deal, Kongsberg will provide engineering and maritime technology deliveries to the RoPax ferry, which will be owned by Irish Continental Group (ICG).

Kongsberg will also provide and install the electrical, telecom and integrated control systems, project management, interface management, and engineering services at all stages of construction.
The deal also includes cables, installation and installation materials for the systems to be provided by Kongsberg.
Additionally, the technology scope of supply includes shaft generators, switchboards, automation, propulsion control, navigation systems, as well as radio and satellite communications.
The engineering and construction phase for the ferry is estimated to be completed in two years.

“This is our first contract in Germany for a full EPCI scope.
“As a major shipbuilding nation, Germany is seen as a strategic area for Kongsberg Maritime as we turn our focus to new markets.”
Featuring a length of 194.80m and 31.6m beam, the new RoPax ferry will have a cargo capacity of 2,800 lane metres and an additional dedicated car deck for 300 cars.
To be equipped with 435 passenger cabins and several restaurants, bars and lounges on four decks, the ferry will be able to carry a total of 1,900 passengers and crew.
Meanwhile, Kongsberg Maritime has won EPCI contracts from Ferguson Marine Engineering (FMEL) for two new ferries to be built for Caledonian Maritime Assets (CMAL).
