Navis, a part of Cargotec, has signed a new deal to provide its N4 terminal operating system (TOS) to Italian terminal Trieste Marine Terminal (TMT).

With the N4 TOS, TMT aims to optimise its operational cycle and lower costs and eventually increase its efficiencies to improve productivity.

Switzerland-based Data and System Planning (DSP), a partner of Navis, will carry out the N4 implementation process and is currently working with TMT, as well as using Navis’ methodology and project management tools.

"We are actively tackling all organisational and operational methods so that we can improve and modernise our cargo handling processes."

DSP will also provide configuration, testing, report and field extensions, and go-live support services, such as customised training courses on N4.

Trieste Marine Terminal terminal manager Roberto Menis said: “Here at TMT, we are actively tackling all organisational and operational methods so that we can improve and modernise our cargo handling processes.

“We believe that innovation and automation are key to maintaining a high level of productivity. Therefore, introducing more and more sophisticated technology and equipment is an absolute requirement.

“We selected N4 in order to remain competitive in the industry, and we are confident that its reliability will carry us forward as we evolve.”

Currently, TMT provides various services for container traffic, such as port handling, storage, CFS activities and intermodal services, which travels through the North Adriatic Sea.

TMT handles 450,000 twenty foot equivalent units of throughput per year and aims to grow at a rate of 10%-15% over the next five years.

The terminal will also install Navis advanced applications Expert Decking, Prime Route and Autostow in order to increase its productivity and service level.

Last month, Chili-based terminal Puerto Lirquen had selected Navis N4 TOS in a move to increase its terminal capacity and improve productivity.
