Wärtsilä has signed an agreement to acquire Finnish technology company Eniram for €43m in a bid to improve its digital offering in data analytics, modelling and performance optimisation.

The acquisition will allow Eniram to initially continue as an independent business entity, supported by the global capabilities of Wärtsilä.

Eniram CEO and co-founder Henrik Dahl said: "With the accelerating trend of digitalisation and connectivity, there is an enormous amount of innovation happening across the maritime industry.

Eniram provides energy management technology to the maritime industry to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

The company’s solutions, ranging from single onboard applications for trim, speed and engine optimisation, to fleet analysis are installed in more than 270 vessels. It has subsidiaries in the UK, the US, Germany, and Singapore.

Commenting on the acquisition, Wärtsilä president and CEO Jaakko Eskola said that digitalisation offers significant growth potential for its customers as well as for the company.
