Turkey’s Sanmar Shipyard has awarded a contract to Rolls-Royce for the delivery of 12 azimuthing thrusters and a thruster control system.
Under the terms of the deal, the shipyard will have the option for an additional 30 thruster units that will be installed on vessels for European and Middle East tug operators.

On exercising the option, the company will be providing propulsion systems for 21 tugboats with bollard pull of 60 to 80 metric tonnes each.
Manufactured at the company’s Rauma site in Finland, azimuthing thrusters are capable of providing thrust in any direction by rotating 360 degrees around its vertical axes.
The thrusters are expected to be delivered during 2016.

Both the companies have joined forces for a number of projects with Rolls -Royce providing propulsion equipment for world’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) tugs built by Sanmar Shipyard.
