Fincantieri Marine in the US has teamed-up with naval engineering and design firm Gibbs & Cox to develop future ship and vessel concepts.

The new joint strategic research and development initiative will focus on developing new concepts that can be applied in the US and international market.

Fincantieri CEO Giuseppe Bono said: "Bringing together Fincantieri and Gibbs & Cox’s complementary skills and expertise will offer innovative capabilities to the US market.

Both the firms will look for new means to develop innovative ship concepts that will be able to offer enhanced affordability and production efficiency.

The companies have also worked together with Lockheed Martin on the development of the US Navy’s Freedom Class variant of the littoral combat ship.
