Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) US subsidiary GTT North America has signed a technical assistance and license agreement (TALA) with Conrad Shipyard for the design and construction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) barges and LNG-fuelled vessel bunker tanks.

GTT is the membrane containment system design provider for the maritime transportation and storage of LNG, and both the LNG barges and vessel bunker tanks will be constructed using the company’s technology.

GTT chairman and CEO Philippe Berterottière said: "This agreement is a major landmark, not only for GTT and Conrad but also for LNG as a fuel in America.

"It paves the way for implementing state-of-the-art containment solutions in American-built vessels."

The US shipbuilder received its approval after completing the qualification process, including dedicated training of its employees by GTT and the fabrication of a membrane tank model, GTT stated.

Recently, GTT secured an order to supply membrane containment solutions for three large LNG vessels that will be built by Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME).

The vessels will be constructed using GTT’s NO 96 GW technology, which allows for an optimised boil-off rate of cargo LNG. Delivery of the vessels is scheduled for 2018.
