Cruise ship operator Costa Cruises has received its fifteenth ship Costa Diadema from Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri.

The vessel was constructed at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Marghera under a contract worth €550m and will be the new flagship of Costa Cruises fleet.

The project involved around 1,000 shipyard workers along with a further 2,500 subcontractors and about 400 contracted suppliers.

"Costa Diadema is 300m-long and 37m-wide featuring 1,862 guest cabins and offers Italian lifestyle." 

Fincantieri CEO Giuseppe Bono said: "Costa Diadema is the 44th cruise ship we have built since 2002, the 12th cruise ship we have built for our friends from Costa Crociere."

Costa Diadema is 300m-long and 37m-wide featuring 1,862 guest cabins and offers Italian lifestyle, entertainment, gastronomy and hospitality.

At 132,500gt, the new vessel provides large, split-level rooms that provide a direct view of the sea.

On 30 October, Costa Diadema will start sailing from Venice to Trieste and begin its cruise on 1 November. The vessel will reach Genoa on 7 November for the official naming ceremony and later will be deployed in the Mediterranean Sea.

Recently, Fincantieri launched a super-luxury cruise ship Le Lyrial, constructed for French cruise line Compagnie du Ponant (Bridgepoint Group).
