The medium-sized, multi-gas carrier is being designed for sea transport of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and the co-products of shale gas, such as ethane and ethylene gas (LEG).

MES’ neo82GC prototype is being developed to meet the changes the company expects to see in the maritime market, as well as the rising trade scale of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), such as propane and butane.

“MES is…predicting that small-sized carriers will need to become larger with more comparable capacities to medium-scale LNGCs.”

According to MES, LNG carriers (LNGC) can be classified into large-scale and medium-scale LNGCs centering on the hub ports across the world in the next decade. In the mean time, MES is also predicting that small-sized carriers will need to become larger with more comparable capacities to medium-scale LNGCs.

The new gas carrier will join MES’ neo series of next-generation, eco-friendly ships in the bulk carrier sector.
