Nordic Tankers, Dania Ship Management, and Danfoss IXA have tested a new sensor technology designed to monitor emissions.
As part of the test, the technology has been installed on the Nordic Mari chemical tanker, which is owned by Nordic Tankers and managed by Dania Ship Management.

Results from the test showed that the technology has helped the vessel to consume less fuel and allowed Dania Ship Management to monitor the engines’ performance.
Developed by Danfoss IXA, the sensor is capable of measuring the emissions of sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxide (NOx), and ammonia (NH3).
The technology is also designed to provide data to both ship owners and authorities using a cloud-based solution.

The collaboration between Nordic Tankers, Dania Ship Management, and Danfoss IXA began in 2015 when the sensor technology was installed on Nordic Mari, which shuttles between Europe and the US.
Dania Ship Management CEO Carsten Brix Ostenfeldt said: “Our next target is to compare the readings on-board Nordic Mari with other external readings, for example, the sensor fitted on the Great Belt Bridge in Denmark.
“The sensor on the bridge is first and foremost fitted to ensure compliance with Danish and global legislation, but over time such technology will also ensure a level playing field, which we support as a principle for doing business today.”
Danfoss IXA’s sensor technology is currently installed on several new builds and can be retrofitted to existing vessels.
