Finnish shipping company Viking Line will launch its new cruise ship Viking Glory, which is considered to be one of the most eco-friendly ships in the world.
In June, the cruise liner held a keel-laying ceremony for the new passenger ship at the Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Shipyard in China. Viking Line will launch the new vessel in 2021.

The ship will be fitted with Wartsila 31DF dual-fuel engines, facilitating operations using sulphur-free liquefied natural gas (LNG). The ship will also be able to operate on biogas.
Due to fuel-efficient engines, Viking Glory will use up to 10% less fuel compared to its sister ship Viking Grace.
Viking Line project manager Kari Granberg said: “Viking Glory will have six 31DF engines for efficient optimisation of fuel consumption. These engines have the lowest fuel consumption but, at the same time, the highest cylinder output in their segment (550kW/cylinder).”
The new ship will be able to recover the waste cold from the LNG utilisation and recycle it for the use in cold counters, cold rooms and other special rooms.

Granberg added: “Today, recovery of waste heat is already common, but to recycle waste cold for the purposes of refrigeration appliances and cold rooms is an innovative and highly climate-smart solution. Viking Line has carried out development work in collaboration with Wartsila, Projektia and Deltamarin.”
Viking Glory will feature a Climeon energy recycling system that generates electricity using waste heat from the engines. With the system, the ship will be able to meet up to 40% of its electricity demand for passenger functions.
The ship will be equipped with a dynamic air conditioning and lighting system. It will be set in power-saving mode when a cabin is empty.
ABB will supply the Azipod propeller system for the vessel, which will save time and energy for ship manoeuvring.
