Costa Toscana is the third ship of the Costa Group fleet. Powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), the new flagship ship will be operated by Costa Cruises, the Italian brand of Carnival Corporation.

The first metal sheet cutting took place in July 2019 and its hull assembly began in February 2020. The float-out ceremony of the Costa Toscana was held at the Meyer shipyard in Turku, Finland, in January 2021.

The vessel is a sister ship of Costa Smeralda and will enter service in December 2021 upon completion of interior fittings. It will be representing a tribute to the Tuscany region, which is one of the most popular regions in Italy.

Sustainable features of Costa Toscana

The LNG-powered Costa Toscana ship has been designed with a circular economy concept. The ship’s LNG propulsion with dual-fuel hybrid engines will reduce sulphur dioxide emissions and most of the other particular matter emissions as well as nitrogen oxides and CO₂.

The special desalination plants on board will process seawater directly and meet the ship’s daily water supply requirements.

The sustainable design features of the Costa Toscana will make it one of the most environmentally friendly cruise ships in the world when commissioned.
