Norway-based shipowner Awind has given contracts to Kongsberg Maritime for designing and equipping two construction service operation vessels (CSOV/SOV).
The total value of the contracts stands at around Nkr250m ($30m).

The vessels, featuring Kongsberg’s UT 5519 DE design, will be built by China Merchant Heavy Industries.
The vessels are due to be delivered in 2023 and will be deployed for renewable offshore wind projects. Their design will aim to improve sustainability and minimise emissions.
Kongsberg’s integrated equipment solution consists of DP and automation systems, deck machinery equipment and control systems, permanent magnet Azimuth thrusters, generators, electrical systems and a fully integrated bridge with navigation.
Kongsberg Maritime president Egil Haugsdal said: “This cooperation will have positive ripple effects across the entire organisation, as well as reinforcing Kongsberg Maritime’s market position in the growing renewable energy segment.”

By GlobalDataThe UT 5519 DE design, featuring a novel hull form and propulsion concept, aims to increase manoeuvrability and efficiency as well as reducing emissions.
The design incorporates results from research and development projects and operational involvement from Kongsberg Maritime’s wind farm service vessel designs.

Earlier this month, Sweden-based private ship manager Marinvest signed a contract for deploying Kongsberg Digital’s Vessel Insight on five of its oil and chemical tankers.
Vessel Insight will allow Marinvest to gather important information on vessel performance optimisation as well as the minimisation of emissions.
The solution is planned to be installed on all five vessels by September.
