Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has taken delivery of a new custom-built ship from Meyer Werft shipyard in Bremerhaven, Germany, which has been specifically designed for the Chinese market.

The new ship, Norwegian Joy, is NCL's 15th vessel and is capable of accommodating 3,883 guests.

The 167,725t cruise liner is NCL’s second Breakaway-Plus class of vessel, and features an innovative design with amenities tailored to cater to the requirements of the Chinese guests onboard.

Norwegian Cruise Line China president David Herrera said: “With this incredible ship, we have taken Norwegian’s signature on-board experience and expanded and customised it with exciting features, services and amenities that combine the best of the East and the West.

“We are honoured to deliver this spectacular ship to our Chinese guests and we can’t wait to see Norwegian Joy come to life when she welcomes her first guests upon her arrival in China this June.”

Norwegian Joy features various VIP accommodations including NCL’s The Haven, which is the company’s exclusive, ship-within-a-ship luxury suite complex and includes The Haven Observation Lounge, offering guests 180° views.

The ship also includes the Concierge level, a new accommodations category that will provide a VIP experience that features an exclusive Concierge observation lounge and larger balcony staterooms. 

In addition, Norwegian Joy’s accommodations offerings consist of specifically designed connecting staterooms for extended families travelling together, as well as several mini-suite, balcony, ocean view and interior staterooms with virtual balconies.

A two-level competitive racetrack, an open-air laser tag course, simulator rides, Oculus virtual reality technology and interactive video walls at the Galaxy Pavilion have been added to the new ship, in addition two multi-storey waterslides.
