Smiths Detection (SDI) has unveiled its new dual-view X-ray inspection systems, which will be used to screen the belongings of passengers embarking on Carnival Cruise Line trips departing from PortMiami, US.

The newly installed HI-SCAN 6040-2is systems were developed in collaboration with American Guard Services, and are capable of capturing both horizontal and vertical angle images.

The systems will offer two different high-resolution images, improving the screening process and reducing the need to re-scan items. They also feature an automatic explosives detection capability.

Smiths Detection president Dan Gelston said: “American Guard Services and Carnival Cruise Line proactively worked with SDI to integrate best-in-class technology into their screening protocol.

“Through this collaboration we are confident they have deployed the optimal solutions to enhance the safety and security of passengers, crews, ships, and ports.”

HI-SCAN 6040-2is systems use multiple views and sophisticated algorithms to help detect concealed items and possible threats, and have already been approved by the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) for use in airports across Europe.
