Glen Paine, Executive Director, has announced that the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS), is now approved to offer the Veterans Administration GI Bill Education benefits to our nations veterans and other eligible dependants while enrolled in our STCW95 “Chief Mate/Master” License Advancement Program, the “AB to Mate” and “500/1600 Mate Training Programs”. These programs are scheduled year round at both campuses for the convenience of the mariner.

Veterans and their eligible dependants may use their new Post 9/11 GI Bill and the Montgomery GI Bill benefits. Monetary benefits for each program vary; The Chief Mate/ Master Program is eligible for up to $3,600.00, the AB to Mate Program is eligible for up to $7,200.00 and the 500/1600 Mate Program is eligible for over $28,000.00.

“Using GI Bill educational benefits will help ease the out of pocket expenses allowing veterans to genuinely transform themselves into the best educated and highly trained members of the maritime industries”, said Victor Tufts, the Program Manager for the MITAGS Mate Programs.

Already groundbreaking programs, these MITAGS Training Programs are offered at the Institute’s Linthicum Heights, Maryland, Campus. Centrally located near Baltimore, MITAGS is world renowned for its training, simulation, and conference/meeting facility.
Both the AB to Mate and the 500/1600 GRT Mate programs meet the requirements for “Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch” while the Chief Mate /Master LAP meets the “Management Level” training required of the U. S. Coast Guard and STCW-95.
The MITAGS are open campuses dedicated to the education and training of all mariners. Mate Training Programs are open to any current Able Seaman, Mate or Master needing advancement training.
