American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has awarded an approval in principle (AIP) to Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding’s new liquefied natural gas carrier (LNGC).
The 174,000m³ LNGC is equipped with a GTT MARK III Flex membrane cargo containment system.
The AIP will enable Hudong-Zhonghua to use both GTT membrane containment systems, MARK III Flex and NO 96 series to meet different requirements of their clients throughout the operational life of the LNGC.
Hudong-Zhonghua vice-president Chi Benbing said: “Working with ABS through the AIP process, we have demonstrated our ability to meet our clients’ requirements for more efficient LNG vessel design.”
Based in China, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding is a fully owned subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding.
The company manufactures ships for both civilian and military use.
