Carnival to launch four new cruise ships in 2018

US-based cruise line Carnival is set to debut four new ships under the portfolios of AIDA Cruises, Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America Line and Seabourn within this year.

US-based cruise line Carnival is set to debut four new ships under the portfolios of AIDA Cruises, Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America Line and Seabourn within this year.

The launch forms part of Carnival’s ongoing fleet enhancement strategy, which will see the delivery of 18 new ships between 2018 and 2022.

"Our fleet enhancement programme enables us to manage the overall fleet by aligning new ship deliveries with our strategy for measured capacity growth over time."

The company currently possesses a portfolio of ten cruise brands and operates a total of 103 vessels worldwide.

Carnival chief communications officer Roger Frizzell said: “Our fleet enhancement programme enables us to manage the overall fleet by aligning new ship deliveries with our strategy for measured capacity growth over time, while also refurbishing existing ships and phasing out less efficient vessels.

“It is a successful approach that helps us meet our number one priority, to consistently exceed our guests’ expectations.”

Carnival’s new ship to be operated under the Carnival Cruise Line, Carnival Horizon, is expected to be launched by April.

The 133,500t vessel has been designed to offer various innovations, including the Dr Seuss Water Works aqua park, the line’s first teppanyaki dining venue and Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse, among other facilities.

In addition, the new ship set to operate under Carnival’s Seabourn fleet, Seabourn Ovation, is scheduled to be launched in May.

The vessel will be capable of carrying around 600 guests.

Furthermore, Carnival expects to launch the AIDAnova ship under the AIDA Cruises brand in December this year.

The vessel is slated be the first cruise ship to be fully powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) once operational.

Carnival’s new Nieuw Statendam ship will operate as part of the Holland America Line and is slated to be launched in December.

The 99,500t ship is designed to carry 2,666 guests.
