COSCOS has taken delivery of a new containership that is set to be the first to receive Lloyd’s Register’s (LR) cyber-enabled ship (CES) descriptive note ‘Cyber AL3 secure perform’.

COSCOS’ new MV COSCO Shipping Aries vessel complies with the latest version of LR’s Cyber-enabled ships ShipRight procedure, which was issued last month.
The ultra-large container ship has a capacity of 20,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) and was built by Nantong COSCOS KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS) at a Chinese shipyard owned by COSCO Shipping Container Lines.
Cyber-enabled systems are noted to be capable of undertaking simple remote monitoring with a crew on-board, or fully autonomous operation without a crew on-board.
COSCO Shipping Container Line Safety and Technology Department general manager Shi Yongxin said: “We have always attached great importance to cyber-enabled fleet in order to enhance fleet management, reduce energy consumption and control emission.
